Chopin Ballade 4 - at 42:10 ?

I'm very curious where whoever clandestinely recorded this wonderful concert was sitting. I heard that Horowitz was a wizard with acoustics in that he made the sound cover the hall; go out in all directions. I would be amazed if the recorder was sitting in the mezzanine of the old Eastman Theatre! The sound typically was muffled in that section because of it being sort of sandwiched against the top balcony.

Key is correct ... original Paganini caprice number is 9.

Franz just lightly skips over the fact of this piano's key-touch-weight having been radically lightened for Horowitz.

Unfortunately the bass is wrong in approx. 1:32 and 1:37. Anyway he was one of the best pianist of the history.

Despite my humble listening experience, I venture to say that Horowitz had, imho, one of the most developed left hands in recorded pianistic history. His left hand was a miracle instrument in itself.

I'm glad I'm not a professional pianist so that this recording would induce me to quit. I had a teacher who was famous pianist in her own right, and she drove many adult serious pianists to quit. They wanted pointers or polishing and what they discovered was their complete inadequacy. Sylvia was not cruel in the least but she was brutally honest

I was fortunate enough to attend 6 of his recitals in the US and in Japan, all in the 70s and 80s. Although I possess all his recordings issued in different forms, packagings and countries, this superb transfer of the old gem has somehow escaped my attention. So far, my favorite transfer has been the one issued by the St. Laurent Studio some while ago, but the uploaded transfer may possibly surpass it in terms of sound quality. UA-cam, however, does not allow one to decide which is the better transfer, due to its sound limitations. Is this transfer commercially available on CD (or, better still, SACD) format? If available, then on what label? I am keen to learn the information. Many thanks in advance.

The brilliance of his playing at 18.30 mins, leading up to the return of the first subject, is marvelous. He keeps his right foot off the fxxking pedal and reveals every bit of Liszt’s piano-composing genius!,

I love the way Horowitz brings out the melodies in the left hand: fully ambidextrous piano skill; You can bet Liszt had it!

Some of the new players are amazing, but I just don't see anyone with the depth of soul. I think maybe new piano engineering / acoustics have something to do with it too, but wow. This is beautiful.
